The Accounting Paraprofessional program provides students with the diverse set of career and accounting skills that will allow them to perform in many positions in the accounting and finance world. Graduates are prepared for employment as bookkeepers, tax return preparation assistants, accounting paraprofessionals, accounting clerks, staff accountants, and computer accounting assistants. Employment opportunities can be found in public accounting, industry, and government. These skills are also beneficial for home-based or other self-employment as a full charge bookkeeper. For those who are currently employed, the degree offers the opportunity for job upgrading.
This degree curriculum includes the courses in the Bookkeeper Basics Certificate , the Bookkeeper Certificate , and the Professional Bookkeeper Certificate . Students should petition to graduate from each of those certificates as they complete the required course work in those certificates. Many of the courses are included in the Associates of Arts: Business Emphasis and Bachelor of Science Business Administration with an Accounting Minor and credits may be applied to these degrees.
Students who intend to qualify to take the CPA exam and become credentialed can utilize some of the ACC courses in this program. Please see the Bachelor of Science - Business Administration degree, Accounting Minor .
Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in composition, reading, and mathematics as prerequisites for courses within this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. Graduates of the program will receive an Associate of Applied Science: Accounting Paraprofessional.
The Associate of Applied Science: Accounting Paraprofessional degree is available at Colorado Mountain College in Breckenridge, Glenwood Springs, Leadville, Rifle, Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs, and Steamboat Springs. However, not all courses are offered in a live mode at all campuses. This program is fully available through remote/online learning.
