Accounting: Professional Bookkeeper Certificate


The Professional Bookkeeper Certificate is a program designed to allow students to develop the foundation and skills to support small to medium sized businesses.  Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and taxation knowledge and application are complemented by the acquisition of additional career skills in communication, ethics, and business applications.  Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to become full charge bookkeepers for businesses or self-employment. 

This certificate curriculum includes the courses in the Bookkeeper Basics Certificate  and the Bookkeeper Certificate . Students should petition to graduate from those certificates as they complete the required course work in those certificates. This certificate curriculum includes courses in the Accounting Paraprofessional (AAS)  and credits may be applied to this degree. Many of the courses are included in the Bachelor of Science Business Administration with an Accounting Minor  and some credits may be applied to this degree. Many of the courses are included in the Associates of Arts: Business Emphasis  and the Bachelor of Science Business Administration with an Accounting Minor  and some credits may be applied to these degrees. 

Students who intend to qualify to take the CPA exam and become credentialed can utilize some of the ACC courses in this program. Please see the Bachelor of Science - Business Administration degree, Accounting Minor.

Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in composition, reading, and mathematics as prerequisites for courses within this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency: Professional Bookkeeper.

The Professional Bookkeeper Certificate is offered at all CMC locations. However, not all courses are offered in a live mode at all campuses. This program is fully available through online learning. The courses below fulfill the requirements of the Professional Bookkeeper certificate. See an advisor to develop a personalized schedule.

Students completing this program may wish to seek the Bookkeeping Certification, Quickbooks Online, Payroll Certification, Accounting Certification, Accounting Analysis Certification and Tax Certifications Credentials from the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers.  

This program is financial aid eligible.
