Action Sports Media Certificate

The Action Sports Industry seeks the “guerrilla marketer”. One who can do it all and is “on-the-go”. These individuals are equipped to travel fast and light and capture content in remote locations to be deployed through social media and the web. By using the skill-sets set forth in the Action Sports Media certificate, students can expect to be employed as entry-level social media specialists, digital content curators, and media coordinators.

Media options proliferate modern life and audiences have become highly fragmented. As a result, brands have dedicated massive resources to multifaceted yet integrated strategies in events such as X-Games and influencers on Instagram. Emerging action sport professionals in skate, wakeboarding, surfing, and ski/snowboarding are now mainstream marketing influencers. As the value of action sports has risen, teams leagues, and athletes have found it worthwhile to perfect their own marketing. Together, marketing has pushed the envelop on combining mass media, social and digital media, sponsorship, public relations and other disciplines into powerful integrated communications programs.

To adequately cover this broad spectrum of stakeholders, the Action Sports Media curriculum allows students to explore a wide range of perspectives, including those of organizations, sports media, athletes, and brands connecting with audiences through experiences.

The curriculum includes many courses that may be applied to the Associate of Applied Science in Action Sports Industry  as well as the programs in the Isaacson School of Communication, Arts & Media.

Students must demonstrate acceptable proficiency levels in composition, reading, and mathematics as prerequisites for courses within this certificate. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this certificate.
