Criminal Justice (AAS)

The Associates of Applied Science in Criminal Justice is an online and on-campus degree program designed for the needs of new and continuing students. This degree will provide new students with the academic foundation to begin their careers in the field of criminal justice while providing an opportunity for those students currently employed in the field to advance their careers.

Students will learn from professionals in the field such as sheriff’s deputies, police officers, EMS/fire and legal professionals, and will learn valuable skills and techniques utilized in many law enforcement and criminal justice-related fields.

The AAS in Criminal Justice degree will help prepare students for the following careers:

  • Police Officer
  • Probation and Parole Officer
  • Detentions Deputy
  • Corrections Officer
  • Security Officer

Students will have the opportunity to network with various public safety and law enforcement professionals that are currently working in the field.

Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in mathematics and composition & reading as prerequisites for courses within this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. The AAS in Criminal Justice is fully offered at Colorado Mountain College in Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs. Many of the general education courses are also available online. Note: The Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy (CLETA)  certificate is a requirement of this degree, which is only offered at the Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs campus.

Graduates of the program will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Please consult with an advisor for details to develop a personalized schedule.

Law Enforcement Requirements


(37 credits)

The AAS in Criminal Justice requires completion of the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy (CLETA)  certificate of occupational proficiency from CMC. CLETA has special admissions requirements, please contact the CLETA Program Director. If you currently hold a Colorado P.O.S.T. certificate please contact the CLETA Program Director as you may be eligible to receive credit for this experience that can be applied to the AAS in Criminal Justice.
