Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

This certificate teaches the duties associated with the practice of venipuncture, capillary puncture, and special collection procedures. Students will have experience with quality control, infection control, and safety procedures as well as laboratory computer systems. After successfully completing the required courses and the internship, students will be able to apply for the American Medical Technologist (AMT) National Phlebotomy Examination. Permission of the Program Coordinator is required and current Medical Assistants are encouraged to apply. Documentation of recent immunizations, a recent criminal background check, and a recent drug screen are required.

The Instructor will provide students with the Student Handbook and students must abide by all policies and procedures.

This program is designed to prepare the student to be a skilled Phlebotomist in the health care industry. The Healthcare Industry has moved toward requiring national certification and our program at Colorado Mountain College partners with (AMT) American Medical Technologists to provide our graduating students with the ability to take their national certification to become a (RPT) Registered Phlebotomy Technician.

Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in composition, reading, and mathematics as prerequisites for courses within this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. For more details, please see the Academic Placement and Testing  section.

Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Phlebotomy.

The Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Phlebotomy is offered at Colorado Mountain College in Vail Valley at Edwards and Rifle. Please note: some courses are only offered online. Please see your advisor for a recommended sequence of courses.

This certificate program is not eligible for federal student aid funds.
