Medical Assistant: Billing and Coding Certificate

The Medical Billing and Coding Certificate will prepare students to use and apply medical coding for insurance reimbursement and billing in a physician office, billing, and insurance companies. The program provides a sound knowledge of medical coding rules and regulations including compliance and reimbursement as well as billing procedures and regulations. At the completion of the program, including an internship, students are eligible to take the National Certified Professional Coding (CPC) exam. Course work must be completed prior to Internships and in cooperation with the Program Coordinator.

This certificate curriculum includes many of the courses included in the Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Assistant  and credits may be applied toward that degree.

Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in composition, reading, and mathematics as prerequisites for courses within this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. Students must successfully pass a mandatory background check and drug screen in order to participate and be placed in a clinical setting. Students will abide by the Student Handbook provided by the Instructor.

Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Billing and Coding.

The Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Billing and Coding is offered at Colorado Mountain College in Vail Valley at Edwards. Please note: some courses are only offered online. Please see your advisor for a recommended sequence of courses.

For federal student aid purposes, this program meets the minimum requirements of 29 credit hours and 30 weeks of instruction and is financial aid eligible.
