◆ MAT 135 - Introduction to Statistics (GT-MA1)

3.0 Credits


Prerequisites: Next Generation Accuplacer Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS) scores 240-300; or equivalent ACT/SAT scores; or passed MAT 050  or MAT 055  with a C- or better; and Next Generation Accuplacer Writing scores 246-300; or equivalent ACT/SAT scores; or passed CCR 092 , CCR 093 , or CCR 094  with a grade of C- or better. The college may also use previous academic history, including high school information, for placement. Students who do not meet placement criteria for MAT 135 are strongly encouraged to enroll in MAT 050  prior to MAT 135, or MAT 113  (Co-requisite for Intro to Statistics) concurrently with MAT 135, and to consult with math faculty or a CMC advisor for assistance in choosing the option that best fits their needs.

 
Introduces descriptive and inferential statistics, with an emphasis on critical thinking and statistical literacy. Topics include methods of data collection, presentation and summarization, introduction to probability concepts and distributions, and statistical inference of one and two populations. This course uses real world data to illustrate applications of a practical nature. This is a statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-MA1 category.
