Early Childhood Education Certificates
|
|
These certificates enable students to meet the educational qualifications for Director, or Early Childhood Teacher as defined by the Department of Human Services of the State of Colorado. Early childhood education, like all education, demands well-prepared teachers. A growing body of research supports the value of high-quality early childhood programs for children’s later success in school and later in life, and the most important part of that is the teacher. The certificates offered by CMC meet or exceed the educational requirements needed to apply for certificates offered through the Department of Human Services. Once you complete the required coursework at CMC, you must apply directly through the state office to receive CDHS credentials. The state also has experience requirements on top of any required classes. The requirements in this field change frequently. For more specific information on licensing requirements or state credentials, please contact Barbara Jackman at Colorado Mountain College in Dillon. CMC also offers certificates in Early Childhood Teacher, Group Leader, Director, and Developmental Interventionist Assistant that provide pathways for students to progress along the education ladder.
This certificate curriculum includes many of the courses included in the Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education and credits may be applied toward that degree.
Students must demonstrate college-level reading for all ECE courses. For details see your adviser.

This certificate prepares individuals seeking employment as an early childhood teacher who will be responsible for a single group of children working under the supervision of a director. CMC’s Early Childhood Teacher certificate meets the education requirements for CDHS’s Early Childhood Teacher qualification. Students may apply and obtain an Official Early Childhood Teacher Qualification Verification Letter from the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), Division of Child Care upon meeting certain requirements. There are additional experience requirements required by CDHS. Please see your adviser or contact CDHS.
