The Isaacson School for New Media at Colorado Mountain College prepares students to be competitive in a rapidly evolving world where diverse forms of media increasingly converge to enable new modes of communication - new media. The U.S. Department of Labor projects that by 2018 ninety-one percent of information services and related electronic communications jobs will require at least some post-secondary education. New Media degree and certificate programs (Digital Media Production, Digital Marketing and Design, and Digital Journalism) prepare students to compete successfully in the new economy, helping them develop business and entrepreneurial skills. Internships provide a doorway into the working world and a network of media professionals for New Media graduates. At the culmination of the program, students have the opportunity to intern with a wide variety of media organizations.
The New Media AAS degree combines required general education and a core of required courses as well as three “tracks” or areas of emphasis in addition to the certificates. These emphasis areas include Digital Media Production, Digital Marketing & Design, and Digital Journalism, giving students a choice to meet their career goals.
Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematical skills before entering this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. See the Academic and Placement Testing section.
Graduates of the program will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in New Media.
The New Media program is offered at the Aspen and Roaring Fork campuses. For details consult a Colorado Mountain College adviser.
