Picture of students using their Outdoor Education Emphasis (AA) degree at CMC.The AA Outdoor Emphasis program provides relevant learning experiences and professional-level training to our students. The goal is to prepare students to enter the outdoor and adventure education job markets or to transfer to four-year institutions. The AA Outdoor Emphasis program at CMC consists of 31 credits of Colorado State Guaranteed General Education Transfer Curriculum and is designed to transfer to four-year schools in Colorado. The program strives to be a positive steward of the natural environment and sustainable practices are taught throughout the curriculum. The faculty provide both experience-based and theory-based learning opportunities through the coursework, with an emphasis on student goals, industry-standard practices, and fun.

State Guaranteed General Education Transfer Requirements


(31 minimum plus 3 credits of COM)

Mathematics (GT-MA1)


3-6 credits from the following courses. Students must take both MAT 155  and MAT 156  to satisfy this requirement.

Physical and Life Science (GT-SC1)


7 credits from the following courses. Credits over 7 will be applied to the electives category. Students must take both SCI 155  and SCI 156  to satisfy this requirement.

Arts & Humanities


2 courses (6 credit hours)

Social & Behavioral Sciences


2 courses (6 credit hours). Select 2 courses, 1 of which must be history.

Human Behavior & Social Systems (GT-SS3)


Note:


If necessary to reach a minimum of 15 credits in Arts and Humanities, History, or Social and Behaviorial Sciences, select 1 additional course (minimum 3 credits) from these categories.

Wellness Requirements Transfer Level (✽)

Any PED/OUT/DAN courses, or

Outdoor Education Orientation Requirements


Student must take 6 credits from this section.

Outdoor Education Electives


Students must take at least 9 credits of advised electives from the following disciplines:  ANT, AST, BIO, GEO, GEY, OUT, PER

Colorado Mountain College Requirements


Colorado Mountain College requires its graduates to be proficient in computer use. To graduate, a student must demonstrate proficiency via an examination administered by the college or take CIS 118 . If you take the course, it will be applied to the elective credit.

This program operates on public lands and rivers with special permits from the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Parks Service, and Colorado State Parks.
