EDU 370 - Foundations in English Language Arts in the Elementary Classroom3.0 Credits Co-requisites
Prerequisites: Requires Stage Two Teacher Education Program. Explores cognitive development related to literacy, and provides understanding of the structure of the English language. Upon completion of this course, teacher candidates will understand printed language, both written and spoken, and its systems and forms, well enough to teach it explicitly. It includes basic psychological processes of reading, how children develop reading skill, how good readers differ from poor readers, the structure of the English language in spoken and written form, and validated principles for effective reading instruction. Teacher candidates gain a comprehensive reading model and various designs for instructional delivery. Includes 20 field experience hours in a designated classroom. LEC 45.0 Clock Hours
