Student Life at CMC
Join the vibrant community on campus and in our mountain towns.
Life as a CMC student offers opportunities for involvement, fun, and connection. You’ll meet people from around the world and down the street. Clubs, community events, campus activities, or simply meeting up for coffee encourage connections, stimulate new ideas, and build a sense of belonging. To get involved, keep an eye on the calendar on your campus’s page. Or like one of the CMC Facebook pages.
In addition to the on-campus opportunities, our mountain communities are full of interesting people with energetic enterprises. Some have started companies to make outdoor gear; others create new media for national clients or work for sustainability in this region and beyond. Colorado Mountain College has many local partnerships that enhance your life and learning.
Connect in the classroom, residence halls, study areas, apartments, or local coffee shops. It’s one more way that Colorado Mountain College helps you Elevate your Future!
Activities
Many campus activities occur throughout the school year. The Student Government Association sponsors some, and individual student clubs or organizations sponsor others. You are encouraged to become involved in the development of new activities that could benefit the student community as a whole. Students involved on campus are more likely to succeed in college.
Work through your campus Coordinator of Student Life or Student Success Team to volunteer or serve on a campus initiative committee, Student Government Association, or the Student Activities Committee.
Student Government and Organizations
The College recognizes clubs and organizations through the Student Government Association (SGA). One of the easiest ways for students to expand their educational experience is to join one or more established clubs or organizations or start one of their own. Clubs and organizations offer opportunities for students to take leadership positions and become involved in the college community. They also provide educational, social, and recreational experiences that enrich the students’ lives. Club officers gain leadership skills that have tremendous value in their professional lives after graduation. Clubs also give students a sense of belonging and the pleasure of spending time with people with similar interests.
The SGA and Student Activities Office sponsors a Clubs and Organizations Fair at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. At this event, students are introduced to various clubs and organizations, meet representative members, and learn about each group’s purpose, goals, and activities.
Residence Hall Association
The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is comprised of representatives of residence hall students who assist the residence hall staff in evaluating policies and procedures concerning residence hall living. They also plan or coordinate residence hall functions and activities.
Recreational Sports and Athletics
Colorado Mountain College offers some intramural activities and club sports for its students. These activities include soccer, volleyball, basketball, and flag football. In addition to organized intramural sports, you will find some of the most incredible skiing, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, climbing, and mountain biking in your backyard!
Colorado Mountain College has two collegiate-level varsity sports teams: Alpine Ski and Cross Country. See details on the CMC Athletics page. Go Eagles!
Health and Well-being
Most campuses do not have on-campus health services or facilities. Particular sites may provide essential physical or mental health services on a limited basis. The Student Services staff can refer students to appropriate medical personnel and assist in arranging medical appointments. Student Services staff can also help contact your instructors if you are ill or contending with an emergency.
Living on Campus
We believe that living on campus is an experience that assists students in becoming successful, both academically and socially. On-campus students have ready access to campus support and services and live in some of the most spectacular locations in the Rocky Mountains. New first-year, full-time students attending the residential campuses are required to live on campus for one year with some exceptions. Residents who live on campus must participate in the college Food Service Plan. Any full-time student (12 or more credit hours) is eligible to live on campus. Residences are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Housing is limited and fills quickly, so we urge early reservations. Much more information is available on the CMC Residence Hall Policies and Housing pages, the Academic Catalog, and this handbook’s Residence Hall sections.
Dining Service
Meals are prepared in the dining facilities on residential campuses and served cafeteria style. The food service staff plans menus emphasizing nutrition, quality, and quantity. Specific information on dining services and meal plans is available on the Meal Plans page. All residence hall students must participate in a food service meal plan. Contact your Dining Services General Manager regarding any questions or specific dietary needs.
Off-campus students, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to utilize campus dining facilities. Optional discount meal packages are available through the Student Accounts office or the dining services cashier.
Colorado Mountain College Housing Initiative
Colorado Mountain College offers recently completed apartment-style student housing at CMC campuses in Breckenridge, Vail Valley at Edwards, Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs, and Steamboat Springs.
The apartments are studio and two-bedroom units and are primarily for upper-division students who reside and work in mountain communities year-round and are finishing their degrees. New students are eligible to apply to the residence halls at Leadville, Steamboat Springs or Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs. More information is available on the CMC Student Apartments page.
