Student Services

Access, Inclusion & Disability Services

CMC is committed to providing quality educational support for the diverse needs of its students. Access, Inclusion & Disability Services strives to create an accessible and inclusive campus environment. Access Coordinators, located at campuses across the college, collaborate with faculty and staff to provide appropriate and reasonable accommodations to qualified students with a disability to enable full participation in college programs, services and activities.

Students with a disability seeking a reasonable accommodation should submit a request for accommodation to the Access Coordinator for the campus they plan to attend. A request for an accommodation initiates the interactive process facilitated by the Access Coordinator.

Support services and accommodations may include:

  • Alternate formats for printed materials
  • Alternative testing arrangements
  • Note-taking assistance
  • Assistive technology
  • Advising and registration assistance
  • Interpretive services and assistive listening devices
  • Residential accommodations available at Steamboat Springs, Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs and Leadville campuses

College Libraries

The libraries at Colorado Mountain College offer an extensive collection of resources, available within the physical collections of the Glenwood Springs at Spring Valley, Steamboat Springs and Leadville campus libraries and 24/7 online through the Virtual Library website. The libraries provide access to books, videos, music, art images, audiobooks, career resources and practice tests, journals, magazines, maps, government documents, and course reserves. They also offer a variety of services, including physical and virtual 24/7 research assistance, library instruction, research guides and tutorials and free Interlibrary Loan service.

Counseling & Advising

This section describes the counseling and advising services available at Colorado Mountain College.

Career Planning

Career Services supports the career development of students, offering self-assessment inventories, career exploration tools, virtual programs, special events, job search guidance and a variety of online resources. Staff at each campus provide career counseling, career classes and group workshops. Students also have access to Handshake, the online career management platform, which hosts a job board and additional career resources. 

Career Assessments

Student Services staff use a variety of evaluation instruments to help you through the career/life planning process. Assessment inventories related to aptitudes, interests, personality and values are available to interested students and are especially useful early in your academic and career planning. Contact your College Counselor/Advisor for more information.

Academic Advising

A successful education begins with advising. We strongly recommend that you seek out an Advisor before registering to develop a meaningful and successful program of study. College Counselors, Academic Advisors, and Faculty Advisors can introduce you to the full range of programs and services offered by Colorado Mountain College that support your educational and occupational goals. All students are encouraged to use Student Planning, an online registration tool accessible via Basecamp to explore academic programs, build schedules and register for classes. To get access to Student Planning, contact your College Counselor/Advisor or the front desk at your campus.

It is also important to work closely with your College Counselor/Advisor to ensure successful graduation or transfer of your credits to four-year institutions. Don’t hesitate to ask a College Counselor/Advisor for help as questions arise.

Personal Counseling

Support is available when you need it. Currently enrolled students are eligible for six mental health clinical counseling sessions each semester. CMC partners with clinical counselors to offer sessions both in-person and via telehealth. Learn more or request an appointment by clicking the Counseling button under Student Resources on Basecamp.

At CMC, college counselors take on a dual role of providing academic advising and personal support in a non-clinical role. Advisors assist with exploring options, building academic plans, and accessing resources and academic supports. Talk with a CMC Counselor or Advisor to be referred to mental health clinicians who partner with CMC to offer in-person and virtual clinical counseling for students.

YOU@CMC is a student portal designed to provide students with resources at the right time, so you are better able to deal with issues and life events that occur in college. YOU emphasizes individual well-being and self-awareness in order to connect students to information, campus resources, peers and opportunities-24/7.

TRIO Student Support Services

The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs.

The TRIO Student Support Services program is funded under the U.S. Department of Education. It provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students towards the successful completion of their postsecondary education. Program participants must meet certain requirements set forth by the Department of Education.

TRiO SSS can help students with:

  • Academic Support and Guidance
  • Personal Support and Advocacy
  • Identifying Tutorial Assistance
  • Assistance with Financial Aid
  • Assistance with Transfer and Career Exploration

If you meet one or more of these criteria, you could qualify:

  • You are income eligible based on your (or your parents’) prior year annual income.
  • Neither of your parents has earned a 4-year college degree.
  • You have a documented disability.

And, you need to meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be a registered CMC student seeking a degree or certificate.
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Be willing to make a personal commitment to improving your academic skills.

Learning Labs

The learning labs are a great resource to support you in being successful at CMC. Learning Labs offer help in mathematics, reading, writing class assignments, High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, Accuplacer preparation and college-level courses. Work at your own pace and level in small groups or one-on-one with tutors or instructors in the areas you need assistance. Visit the CMC Academic Support page for more details. 


Tutoring is available for students who need additional help to succeed in a course both in-person and online. At times, a student requires assistance beyond that which a faculty member can reasonably be expected to provide outside of the classroom. Students can request a tutor, drop in during scheduled tutoring hours (in-person or online), or faculty may refer a student to the Learning Labs or to a College Counselor/Advisor if a specific subject tutor needs to be provided. Some campuses maintain a list of tutors that will be provided to students upon request. Student Handbooks

Handbooks for students serve as essential resources of information and support options. In addition to providing detailed information about various support services, the handbooks also contain information about Student Rights and Responsibilities and processes for filing complaints. CMC students have the responsibility to be aware of and follow CMC policies and procedures. To view the CMC Student and Residence Hall Handbooks, please visit the CMC Student Services page. Some academic programs have handbooks detailing expectations, policies and procedures specific to the program.

Student Health & Accident Insurance

Insurance Coverage for Full-Time Students

Students enrolling in six or more credit hours at Colorado Mountain College are expected to have some type of health insurance coverage. CMC refers students to Connect for Health Colorado to find out their best options for health coverage. Connect for Health is a marketplace where individuals can shop and compare, pick, and purchase health insurance plans. Students and parents are encouraged to read the insurance information carefully to determine if any of these programs meet their needs. Connect for Health Colorado may be reached at 1(855) 752-6749.
