Integrated Sustainability (BA)

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrated Sustainability (BAIS) is a solution-oriented, flexible, interdisciplinary program. The BAIS is best suited for students interested in creating solutions with a focus on climate action, social innovation, and community regeneration. Students learn to design social systems that synergize with Earth’s systems, and how to drive social change that advances sustainability.

The Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Sustainability prepares students for professional careers in the rapidly growing and dynamic field of sustainability. Students gain the skills and competencies to create sustainable futures working with communities, nonprofits, governments, businesses, and collaborative networks. They develop personal resilience and leadership skills while developing practical solutions to environmental, social, and economic challenges.

When students pursue the Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Sustainability, they also earn two certificates of occupational proficiency including the Sustainability Leadership Certificate and the Permaculture Design Certificate. These credentials prepare students for entry-level work in multiple areas of sustainability including sustainable design.

The degree also includes opportunities for internships, study abroad, and the option to pursue a concentration in Sustainable Business or Humans and Resilient Communities, or a minor in Ecosystem Science and Stewardship. The requirements for each of these concentrations and minor are included below.

The Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Sustainability is open to remote learners, or courses may be taken in person at Colorado Mountain College in Breckenridge, Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs, Steamboat Springs, and Vail Valley at Edwards. Some courses may require limited in-person experience-based attendance. Some courses may not be offered in-person at all of the above campuses. Please check with a local campus about how sustainability courses are made available there. For additional program location & modality information, please see Academic Programs at Colorado Mountain College.
