Ecosystem Science and Stewardship Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

The Minor in Ecosystem Science & Stewardship studies the structure, function, and processes of ecosystems and their responses to global environmental change. The minor includes the fundamentals of training in the science and practice of stewardship and restoration, with particular attention to the species, habitats and landscapes of the Southern Rocky Mountain Region of the US. The goal of the minor is to equip students with the core knowledge, skills, and practice to generate resilient solutions to the ecosystem stewardship challenges of our time. Students completing the minor can supplement their major with courses that would complement careers related to environmental science and studies, environmental education and advocacy, natural resource management, and broader careers related to social-ecological systems, environmental justice, etc.

The minor curriculum requires students to integrate multiple scales of scientific inquiry, and translate scientific knowledge to action. Learning throughout the program is active, engaging, and both independent and highly collaborative, incorporating field and laboratory training,  and GIS. After completing the15 credits of the core, students can then select an elective upper level course that matches their interests and focus, including Conservation Biolgy, Policy and Practice, or Biostatistics & Quantitative Reasoning.

This minor can be added to any bachelor’s degree.
