The Mentor Teacher Certificate of Proficiency for Endorsement recognizes the exceptional skills and dedication of experienced educators who guide and inspire the next generation of teachers. This certificate affirms the mentor’s expertise in fostering professional growth, modeling effective teaching practices, and cultivating collaborative learning environments.
Teachers seeking this an added endorsement from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) must hold a valid Colorado professional teacher license.
By completing this Certificate of Proficiency, teachers become eligible to apply to CDE to add the Mentor Teacher Endorsement to their Colorado teaching license. The Mentor Teacher Endorsement program at CMC combines a hybrid format with credit-bearing coursework and practicum/field hours. Each of the two courses includes a mix of face-to-face or virtual meetings and online content, with 135 field hours required for each course.
In order to add any endorsement to a Colorado teaching license, once students complete the required coursework at CMC, they must take all required assessments, obtain a program verification form from the Director of Education or fill out the Endorsement Worksheets on the CDE website, and apply directly through CDE to receive the endorsements. The state also has experience requirements on top of any required classes.
Completers of this program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency from Colorado Mountain College in Mentor Teacher.
