ESS 4200 - Soil Ecosystem Dynamics4.0 Credits Prerequisites: ESS 3000 with a grade of C- or higher. ESS 3000 must be taken concurrently with this course if not previously completed with a grade of C- or better. Examines the role of soil in the natural environment, its importance as a natural resource, and the dynamics of soil under natural and human-induced stressors. Explores the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of soils, their composition and formation. Students study best practices in the rehabilitation of acidic, saline-sodic, contaminated, disturbed, and degraded soils. Special attention is given to the role of soil in supporting and maintaining Southern Rocky Mountain ecosystems. This course has a fee that may be non-refundable.
