This certificate provides the student with skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain fire apparatus including pumpers and aerials. Students will demonstrate an understanding of firefighting hydraulics, practical and legal aspects of apparatus operation both on the road and at emergency scenes. Students will demonstrate operation of the various type pumps commonly found in fire service apparatus. This curriculum follows NFPA standards and State of Colorado guidelines for driver operator.
Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in composition, reading, and critical evaluation of written documents.
Fire Science Technology Driver Operator program is offered at the Vail/Eagle Valley Campus. CMC also offers an AAS degree in Fire Science Technology and certificates in Fire Academy I, Fire Academy II, Fire Department Company Officer, Fire Prevention Code Enforcement, and Fire Investigations.
Students considering a career in firefighting must consult with the Fire Science Program Coordinator prior to enrolling in classes for the first time.
Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Driver Operator from Colorado Mountain College.
This certificate program is not eligible for federal student aid funds.
