The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certificate is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
Students must already have a current State of Colorado EMT Certification/License to enroll in this certificate program.
Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in mathematics (placing at MAT 1140 or higher) for this certificate. Skills in this area may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Occupational Proficiency in Advanced Emergency Medical Services from Colorado Mountain College and be eligible to test for national certification.
The Advanced EMT certificate is offered at Colorado Mountain College in Breckenridge and Salida.
CMC also offers certificates in EMT , Paramedic , Rope Rescue Technician , Wilderness Emergency Medical Services , and Wilderness Medical Professional , as well as an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paramedic.
