The Outdoor Recreation Leadership program develops outdoor enthusiasts into skilled, personable, and mindful recreation industry professionals. An academic core curriculum is combined with a variety of immersive and extended field courses to hone technical skills while developing knowledgeable and employable outdoor guides, educators, and logicians.

The Outdoor Recreation Leadership program provides a strong foundation in vital wilderness skills including backcountry navigation, risk management, program development, group facilitation, equipment maintenance and repair, expedition planning, permitting, logistical operations, and additional topics inherent to effective leadership in the outdoor, adventure, and recreation fields.

Students must demonstrate college-level proficiency in composition, reading, and mathematics as prerequisites for courses within this program. Skills in these areas may affect the sequence of courses in which students can enroll and may also extend the time required to complete this program. For more details see the Academic Placement Methods and Placement Test Options  section.

Graduates of the program will receive an Associate of Applied Science in Outdoor Recreation Leadership.
