Sustainability Leadership (COC)

The Sustainability Leadership Certificate (SLC) at Colorado Mountain College offers community members who already hold a bachelor’s degree access to 15 (or more) credits of Sustainability courses to make them more marketable in the workplace and enhance the understanding of how to apply sustainability concepts and strategies to their local communities.

Sustainability Leadership Certificate students will take three foundational courses and then choose two elective courses which provide the certificate earner with an emphasis area. The electives can be chosen from a variety of areas within the Sustainability Studies Bachelor’s Degree ranging from the natural sciences and humanities to the social sciences.  These include, but are not limited to sustainable food systems, sustainable economics, social entrepreneurship, environmental humanities, cultural equity, and ecology courses.  At the Edwards campus, students may also choose to select elective coursework from the Sustainable Cuisine degree offerings.

The certificate will be a “Certificate of Completion” from Colorado Mountain College and is aimed at preparing students to be able to contribute to a more sustainable future within their communities.  The SLC has the potential to increase the earning power of certificate graduates within their current professions and/or as they pursue new careers.  It will surely equip businesses with employees skilled in the theory and practice of sustainability, helping to bring those businesses into the contemporary world of sustainable business practices.

In order to be eligible for the SLC students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and meet the prerequisite requirements for courses within this certificate. Students must complete the sequence of courses within three academic years unless otherwise approved.

The Sustainability Leadership Certificate of Completion is not offered at every CMC campus.  It is offered at Edwards, Carbondale, Breckenridge, Dillon, and Steamboat Springs.  Please check with your local campus for details as to its availability there.
